Behind the Name

From King County Environmental Services Department:

"The word means a parting, a shedding of waters. But a watershed is a gathering place, also. It is a place where hills and plains and people's lives are connected by falling rain and flowing water.

The Cedar River, in particular, flows through the city of Renton and into Lake Washington. Together with the Duwamish (Green) and Black Rivers, it is home to multiple species of local fish — most notably salmon — and sees the largest annual run of sockeye salmon in the Continental U.S. What a wondrous place we call home.
